What can I do to prevent complications of Spherocytosis?

I am also 23 and had a splenectomy at 12 due to spherocytosis. I wish to join the army but I am a risk due to this condition. If I take penicillin daily, and have all the necessary vaccines, could this stop all infections, thus allowing me to join the army?
