Did you ever cough up speckled phlem? It could be a fungal infection.
Has your doctor ever mentioned a fungal infection of sorts? Ask him about it. That will not get better unless you get on anti-fungal medication. I did the antibiotic thing and suffered for two months when I remembered that i'd inhaled a ton of moldy dust from unboxing old clothes in a church w/o a/c. I'm also highly allergic to mold.
Could be oral thrush. Just a thought.

I can't get rid of my oral thrush. It comes back whenever my immune system is down.
You can take a topical swish and swallow of nystatin. Right now I have a bad fungal infection which includes my sinuses, etal and i'm on diflucan tablets. Not all Dr.S seem to know about it. But I have a great ent who is very experienced with it. And one ... more
Check to see if you have oral thrush (which you can get from taking too many antibiotics, steroids, etc). I can't get rid of it. I get the feeling like my throat is swollen and burns alot. And i've gotten that after a food reaction and when I get a return of my oral thrush. Have you tried sudafed 12 hr relief for any sinus dripping. I was told that a nasal drip can cause that.
