I was on Depo for a year. I just stopped with the shots two month ago, but my period hasn't returned. Some spotting is common with Depo, even after being on it for a long period of time - I was still bleeding randomly nine months in. However, you ARE supposed to talk to your doctor whenever the bleeding becomes heavy.
I would recommend making an appointment with your doctor. Don't forget to mention the severe stomach cramps.
