I believe it is referred to as a uretha catheter. Also I believe Foley catheter is used.

I had a suprapubic catheter for awhile. It comes straight from the bladder and can be tolerated better. Mine was put in after kidney and bladder stone surgery plus lasers to trim my prostate.

I also have had problems emptying. It was discovered an enlarged prostate was the main reason. Go to an urologist and have an ultrasound bladder scan done. It is easy and painless.
