Q: Urine odor issues
asked by: DoctorQuestion on October 25th, 2009
on 10-10-09 I had a unprotected 1 night stand. it is 10-25-09 now. On about 10-13 I noticed when I got up that my urine had a very strong odor. Nothing like I have ever smelt before. I had recently gotten off my menstral cyle the week before. I have never had a yeast infection, std or URI.Looking up info online seems like it can be anything from lack of water to std to tract infection. because i ahve never had any problems before i have yet to do a over the counter treatment because all the instructions says to see a doctor first if this has been the first time for these symptoms. i have alos noticed a little pain after done with urination as well as a little itch in my bottom after I urinate. the vaginal discharge that i am having is prety much the usual that i have. the urine is darker yellow in the morning and lighter doing the day. the smell is worst at the fist urine of the day. through out the day the smell isnt as bad.i dont smoke r drink. but i do drink alot of soda @ sweettea

You would like to know what the cause is for the bad smell of your urine.

Usually a bad smell of the urine can appear in the morning due to its concentration. If there is any other smell such as sweetness it can be a symptom of metabolic disease, or if it smells like fish it may be a symptom of a vaginal infection. A yeast infection is characterized by discomfort and itching in the genital region. The vaginal discharge is turning white and is viscose.

Given your description of little pain and itching in the genital region after urination, it is likely that you have either a urinary or vaginal infection.

You may consider laboratory tests such as a culture from the urine with anti-biogram. You may also see a gynecologist to rule out a yeast infection.

I am not able to diagnose your medical condition online. Please contact your doctor or other healthcare provider such as a gynecologist for further diagnosis and treatment options.
