i don't see it mentioned very often that sex and recurrent cystitis, urethritis, kidney infections are sometimes related.
I am sure it is obvious to everyone that the vaginal area and urethra are close together!
A simple suggestion for those women who have recurrent infections of this type is to try to be sure that your partner and you are clean before you engage in sex. After bath is good, and taking a shower together might be good foreplay as long as rinsing carefully is part of it so soap irritation is not an issue.
If you use the mouth, never do so without both partners' thorough mouth washing, toothbrushing first! The mouth carries many bacteria not common in the urethral area so no amount of cleansing the mouth will protect you completely, but if this is part of your practice, at least do what you can do to lessen the contamination.
Just realize that it is near impossible for anything to be in or near the vagina that does not also touch and possibly contaminate the urethra of a woman and use your common sense and act accordingly.
Men also can carry some infections in their urethras sometimes without overt symptoms that they feel, resulting in reinfection of their mates. If she has recurrent infections after practicing cleaner sex, he may need to be checked for infection too.
This is common sense, folks!
I am a clinical laboratory scientist telling you this, having 40 years experience in examining microscopic urinalysis (as well as all other aspects of medical laboratory science) but if you think about it you could probably figure it out for yourselves.

Okay, folks, I forgot to mention that washing the vaginal and urethral area following sex is also a very wise practice for all the reasons given above.
