New here but not to back pain. I have been dealing with upper to middle back pain since last summer. It started with my shoulder blade area last summer, it was more bothersome than anything. Oh and I should add at that time my left hand started to feel week. I couldn't grasp objects tightly and also made writing difficult at times.

Fast forward to last winter. My back started hurting right in the middle of the back sometimes feeling as if someone had stuck a knife in my spine and was twisting. Since then I have been seeing a D.O. who thought he could fix me up. Not happening. I was on hydrocodone 500/5 for almost 8 months and then Doctor took me off of them. I was only taking 1-2 a day as prescribed by the Doctor. I wanted to take more but this was all he would allow.

Now I have had an mri and it really didn't show anything except 2 mild disc bulges at t 4/5 t 6/7 which the Doctor said should not be causing pain.

So now my pain is mostly on my right side radiating down from my shoulder blade, down my right side through my butt and down my leg. My leg tingles all of the time except when laying down. As a matter of fact, I have hardly and pain or discomfort when I am lying down.

I start physical therapy next week and I don't really expect it to help but I will give it a go.

Has anyone else suffered these symptoms? And is it possible that the person who read my mri didn't see everything. All my Doctor got was the report, he didn't have the actual pictures of the mri.

I'm getting desperate, this is no way to live. I can't hardly do anything without this horrible pain rearing its ugly head.

Sorry for the length of this post. Hope I got everything.

Well, with that attitude you might get what you expect. I suggest that you try the PT believing that it can help and then make your observations afterwards. It seems like you're sabotaging the process by thinking it won't help.

Suzieeq,

How are you doing? Has physical therapy helped you?

More than 8 months with and OD that claimed he was sure he could fix you up and treat you for spinal pain and just now gets around to ordering and MRI for you, should be more than enough to tell you that the OD is not qualified to treat you and spinal issues.

Giving you narcotics for the pain and then finally after an MRI telling you that the mild disc bulges could not be causing the pain is not acceptable medical care.

You need to see a spine surgeon for a proper evaluation. Either an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in spine or a neurosurgeon that specializes in spines.

The OD that you are seeing doesn't know how to care for, treat or diagnose spinal problems.

Mild, moderate, severe are subjective opinions and whether they can or will cause pain in a patient is an individual situation. What is mild to one person is moderate to another etc. and the pain tolerance from one person to another is also individual.

A spine surgeon will be able to properly diagnose you and provide you with the treatment and care that you need.

Good luck and let us know how you are doing.

Fran
