Hello -

For the past 3 weeks I have been dealing with some gastro issues. It started at the beginning of this month with bloating of the stomach and back pain. When that ceased, a discomfort of sorts made itself known in my upper right side. After a week of dealing with the discomfort I started to have diarrhea. By diarrhea, I think I mean more of a loose stool issue with a few bouts of actual diarrhea. The diarrhea wasn't "urgent" but instead sort of replaced my normal bowel movement of each day. On the 17th on this month (12 days after the bloating occured) I went to the ER as the discomfort was too much to handle. It wasn't so much pain as a feeling that something was in my side, under my ribs. The discomfort traveled up my back and to my shoulder blade. Being as gallbladder issues run in the family, I thought that this was the case. After 4 hours in the ER with multiple tests done (urine, blood, ultrasound and CT) the doctor said that he could see no problem and that I just had a case of gastritis. He sent me home with a prescription of Prilosec and a dose of Mylanta. After taking the Mylanta I felt great and thought I was cured, but that was incorrect. I'm still dealing with the diarrhea, although I have had 3 normal bowel movements in the past week of so.

After a visit to my PC, for a follow up, she said that my diarrhea was probably from a virus and that my body had to fight it. The thing is that, like I said, I'm still dealing with the diarrhea (no blood but a bit of mucus) and I am still having discomfort in my right side. Along with these two issues I also seem to have lost some weight in the past 2 weeks, enough to make my pants fit looser. I'm going to see my PC again tomorrow as I would like to see a specialist or have more tests run as I'm scared to death that there's something really wrong with me.

Anyone have any idea what my issue could be? Anyone ever have this same issue of sorts?

Whatever this is, ALOT of people have it. Both my twin sister and I have the same thing. I have had mine for years, but she just developed it this past winter, and her pain was so bad she went to her doctor. They did all the same tests as you had, and said there was nothing wrong with her! We were figuring gall bladder, as our mother had hers out when she was younger than us, but the doctor said no stones! So if you ever find out what this is, I would sure like to know too! Only difference between what you have and mine is, I don't have any change in bowel movements. But the feeling on the right side is the same, and so is the back pain.

After seeing my PC yet again, I'm being referred to a GI specialist. They are very hard to get an appointment with, although my PC is going to tell them she'd like me seen ASAP.

My symptoms haven't gotten any better and I'm really scared that I have cancer or the bowels. My PC says that it's very rare for someone my age (26) to have bowel cancer, but that nothing can ever be ruled out until more tests are done.

I'm so scared. Sad

Don't be scared. It's not cancer. If it was, I'd have died ten years ago. I am willing to bet it is either gallstones, or stone or sludge in your bile ducts. Sometimes they don't show up on the scans. You are going to be fine. Worrying isn't going you make it any better. Watch what you eat for now, don't eat or drink things that aggrivate it. Let us know what you find out! Good luck!

hey orangeblossoms im having almost all your same symptoms as you (except for the diarrea) i have this discomfort on my upper right side under the ribs and also expands to my back. Its been going for like 3 weeks now. I'm 22 years old went to the the doctor to check my gallbladder, my liver and other blood tests that the doctor made, and what do u think ...HE FOUND NOTHING. I should let u know that i'm being treated for anxiety and i have had many crazy symptoms that have lasted for many days from chest pains and palpitations, to acidity, constipation, backache, headache and well now the abdominal discomfort. I didnt know until now that anxiety disorders and panic attacks can trigger many of (IF NOT ALL)the worst symptoms of any bad disease especially if u know of all the symptoms of bad things in your body. So my question is are an anxious person?, do you worry a lot?, b/c this maybe the whole cause of your problems. Still Im not saying that u shouldnt go to those specialists that you mentioned before but if evrything comes back positive maybe u should consider if your stress is the reason for all these problems. Good Luck and take care of yourself.

Today I had my GI appointment. Met with the doctor and went over all of my symptoms for quite a while. He threw a lot of information at me in a short amount of time but was quite thorough. After going over all my symptoms he said that he can't really say it's one thing or another, as I have many different symptoms, but that most of them point towards a gall bladder problem. He wasn't too concerned over my weight loss (15 lbs since February) but said that if I seem to be losing more to make an appointment. I haven't been losing any more weight since I've been having normal stools and have been eating normally again so hopefully I won't lose anymore.

After speaking with me I was sent to the lab to have blood run for Celiac, thyroid problems, H. Pylori and two other tests that I can't remember at the moment. I was also sent home with a stool test kit in the event that I start having bowel problems once again. So far I've been having normal stools for about 3 weeks, with the exception of 2 days, which is normal for me. I was also prescribed Prilosec for Gastritis once again as the doctor said that if I do have Gastritis that it usually takes at least 2 months to heal. I've been prescribed 5 months worth of Prilosec...

On Monday I am being sent for a HIDA Scan to see how my gall bladder is functioning and in a couple weeks I'm going for a Glucose Breath Test to see if I have bacteria over growth in my small intestine. Both tests are non-invasive but take 2.5 hours each.

Hopefully I will have a diagnosis soon and can begin whatever treatment it is that I need. In the meantime I have to stay positive, keep healthy and try to stay stress and anxiety free. The anti-anxiety pills my PC prescribed me have helped a lot in that department so far!

Had my HIDA Scan and called for the results to all my labs and the scan today. Everything came back normal... I guess I'm back to where I was, with having zero idea as to what's wrong with me. I'm incredibly scared, more now than ever, that I have a cancer of some sort being as everything else has come back normal. What could be causing this pain and diarrhea. The diarrhea has come back again, but I'm not sure if it's because of whatever is going on with me, nerves or the Prilosec they put me back on. Seems I had normal stools when I wasn't on Prilosec (3 weeks of normal stools...) and now that I'm on it again I'm having loose stools.

Pain over right side of stomache around to the back
Hey orangeblossoms, If you had cancer I think by now other symthoms would show up, like bood in your stool or unbearable pain. I had similar pains in the same region as you and I know how frustrating and scared you must be as the doctors havent found any thing concrete.
Thinking I had something wrong with my gallbladder I sought help with natural remedies. I took 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice every day for 5 days to flush the sludge out of the gallbladder. Also consume apples and radishes for these 5 days. Nothing here will kill you but help you as I noticed it did me the very first day. If the symthoms persist at least your gallbladder will be clean and you can rule it out.
Good luck and God bless,

Same Issues Here
I'm having the exact same issues as you, Miss Orangeblossoms. My blood work has shown nothing, my hida scan is negative, and an ultra sound showed a little sludge in the gall bladder, but it's working fine. The only other symptom I seem to have is acid reflux. I took protonix for 90 days that resulted in terrible canker sores, so bad I couldn't speak. Be careful with those prescription drugs. Keep us posted as you learn more about your situation.

Hey everyone,
Here's another thing everyone overlooks. After loading our bodies up with anti-biotics , the doctors never tell you to take pro-biotics to refill your intestines with good bacteria as the anti-biotics kill not only the bad bacteria but the good. This is how MRSA started and thats why antibiotics don't work for this desease and so it attacks your live tissue. People get yeast infections and a trip to the doctors gets you another round of anti-biotics, then more ailments turn up. Its a viscious cycle. Load your body up with good bacteria and you can do so by eating yogurt or activa or cheese.
Did you notice how the companies are starting to put alot of these live cultures in our food? Thats because they were destroyed in our bodies because the animals and hens are injected with anti-biotics and steroids. If the government told you thats what causes alot of our ailments, it would wreck the poultry and meat industries.
God said in the bible"I give you fruit and herb blossoms to cure yourself". Not prilosic, avanta, or statin drugs with side effects. You are what you eat.

Hello orangeblossoms, I have read about your problem, and would like to share mine with you.
About a little over a year ago i started experiencing these same symptoms. I went through all the same tests a you, guess what, they came back normal.
Well one morning the pain and nausea were so bad that i went to the hospital, however when they did a CT scan, but this time they fount that i had an ovarian cyst. However it didn't end there as i continued to have the same problems throughout the year.
On May 22nd of this year I woke up with the same pain and nausea, by the way my bowel movents were the same they didn't go back to normal, I went to see a different doctor as my PCP wasn't working that day, This doctor couldn't figure out what was wrong so she sent me down to the ER where they set me up with an IV did bloodwork and than injected pain and nasea medication through the IV before they hooked it up to the IV bag.
They had started me drinking a cup of fluid every half hour to prepare me for a CT scan to better see what they had probably missed before, about an hour after i started drinking this fluid my pain killer wore off, The most horrific pain started in my abdomen, I swear i hardly ever cry but the pain was so bad that i actually did cry, luckily my fiance was with me and he went to get the nurse to give me some more pain medication, I swear it felt like forever before it started working, but it was really only five minutes. So i continued to drink that stuff. Finally i get to do the CT scan, they gave me the die through my IV, a couple hours later i get results. My ovarian cyst had ruptured good thing i followed my instincts and went to the doctor, right?
Well anyway they also fount Gall stones, by the way they finally found the a year after these symptoms started.
Hilarious isn't, of course i'm being sarcastic because i woke up this morning with this nausea and pain yet again, I am going to call and make an appointment with my doctor.

I'm a guy and having that same issue at age 28. i never get pain it's only a discomfort. it comes on for 10 mins tops then go away. these days when it comes on, i use icyhot around the region which relieve the discomfort. The thing is, i chose to avoid medication because most likely it's a liver issue, and some medication can worsen the state of the liver. so i go on a high fruit diet for a month, (vegetarian, no meat at all, not even dairy)to reduce the amount of work my liver has to do. Also a good thing to look at is the color of your stool, if it's pale or solid brown. another thing, don't rule out it can just be a muscle issue, maybe a strain, the discomfort.

Hi. I am a 28 year old male. I have experiencing this same discomfort, upper right abdomen and below the ribs. No real pain just discomfort. I unfortunately am a worry wart and my mind just is terrible thinking I have cancer. I had CT scans, ultrasound done, bloodwork and urine. It turns out I have a fatty liver and thats about it. I need to lose weight pretty much. Worrying doesnt help and sadly I continue to worry that something is seriously wrong with me. It reallt stinks. But reading all of these things is encouraging. I am so fearful of getting cancer or just dying. I know its silly but, i cant control myself.

Abdominal discomfort (right side below ribs)
Hey everyone, I've had mostly the same problems as you all for the past 4 months. After switching to a raw food diet my symptoms have dramatically calmed. I drink the right amount of water everyday and I drink it at the right times. No meat, dairy, or wheat, just fruits and vegetables. Also, a healthy amount of exercise. What you must remember is that if you want to feel right again you MUST NOT make dietary exceptions! No "Well I can have a little steak because I need protein.. :\ " You can get your protein from nuts and seeds. I hope everyone reading this with with these health issues takes it into consideration. Although I never found out what it was; I found out how to calm it and I hope you try it for yourself and get better.

Hi everyone. Make sure you know the symptoms of Carcinoid Syndrome. Cancer of the small intestine is not as rare as it used to be. I live in a town of 60,000 people and there are 5 of us in my town who have Carcinoid (Neuroendocrine) cancer. It never hurts to know the warning signs. I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer at the age of 39. And yes, you can have it for over 10 yrs as it is a slower growing cancer. Average time it takes to get correctly diagnosed is 6 years. Be well.
