Q: Upper endoscopy tests for diagnosis
asked by: DoctorQuestion on November 3rd, 2009
I get heartburn every single day. I was given omeprazole by the doctor to help this. I sometimes cant speak because my mouth has that much saliva in it. When I swallow this i need to speak quick because its the same seconds later. This is only sometimes. I dont know what triggers this. I get acid coming up my throat that tastes like peppers and spices and metal. I get heart palpitations also. If I eat good, I can feel it sitting in my throat. Even hours later, If I burp I could probbly sick all this food up. Sometimes need to reswallow it.

I sometimes feel light headed with this also and a bit anxious. Im not sure if it is GERD or not but I have been reading alot and think it is. My doctor doesnt seem bothered about this he just gives me a few weeks worth of omeprazole every time I come. My heart monitor came back clear but I definately get palpitations that are not picked up.

It makes me feel sick every time I eat.

Please help me, Cheers Ross.

You may consider consulting with a gastroenterologist for an upper endoscopy in which they look down your throat with a scope to see if there is anything there. It seems possible that you may have a polyp or diverticulae or even a hiatal hernia.
