Back pain symptoms may seem obvious. But do you know when symptoms of back pain are more serious or when to see a doctor? Learn what action to take & when...
About five days ago I got on a roller coaster, in the first drop my body leaned forward and when I tried to get up I heard a crack on my back and had to end the ride with a lot of pain. I had difficulty breathing but after a while it went away. The next day when I woke up it hurt again, it's the upper middle section that hurts when I do any sudden movements or get up from a chair or bed. The pain comes and goes so I'm not sure how serious can it be.

Sm31,

Back pain is usually muscular and other soft tissues in origin. It is possible to have a thoracic compression fracture of the vertebra, from minimal flexion type trauma. This is most commonly seen in women who have significant osteoporosis.

As long as the patient is neurologically intact, compression fractures in the thoracic region are usually just treated symptomatically, with pain medication, short period of rest, and then gradual mobilization and strengthening.

The only way to know if you have sustained a compression fracture is to have the spine x-rayed.

If you are concerned, see your physician. Good luck.
