I am 48 years old. Have had some minor problems with my cycle over the last few years. occassionally have a somewhat short cycle compared to the norm (23 days) and have a couple of episodes of my period being a couple of weeks late. In addition I have had several ovarian cysts that have resolved themselves. In recent months my cycle has been very regular (about 25 days). I am not experiencing any signs such as hot flashes that indicate perimenopause. The last couple of months I have noticed a slight trace of bloody disharge about a week prior to my period starting. I did not worry too much. I had my last period on schedule on April 6th, all seemed normal. 10 days later I started to spot, and have continued to spot since that time (today is the 8th day). I have had a lot of pressure in my pelvis during this time, with some localized pain in my right side. menstrual like cramping, and low back pain. I saw a doctor mid week. She took some swabs and said her best bet was that I have an infection. I am in a strictly monogomous relationship so there is no possibility of a std. She prescribed anti biotic.
The bleeding has become slightly heavier in the last 24 hours (requiring a pad.) I have never had bleeding between my periods before (other that little bit of bloody discharge). This is so unusual for me, and I am so worried that something serious is wrong. Has anyone else experienced anything like this out of the blue? Any suggestions or support would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
