Q: unusual potty shyness

I have recently added a 6 month old Border collie/Australian Shep mix to my family. The problem is that she appears to only urinate and deficate at night on paper...with no one else around. No matter what I try, I cannot get her to "potty" in the daytime. This cannot be healthy for her. Suggestions please.....HELP!

This may sound silly, but what if you tried taking the paper/training pad outside and pretend to ignore her? Maybe she hasn't designated "her spot" outside yet, so she's thinking that the paper is her spot. My dogs both have certain spots in the yard and almost always go to that location to potty.
