If a woman with asymptomatic chlamydia does not seek testing or treatment what are the chances that she will develop Pelvic Inflammatory Disease?

If she does NOT develop PID will the infection remain in her body or eventually clear itself?

hello if this goes untreated there is risk of infertility in fallopian tubes..this is usually treated with antibiotics and caught early enough can clear..there is also the risk of pelvic inflammitory as you mentioned. I advise you seek medical help and start treatment.

It is imperative to get treated as soon as possible. The longer you delay the more potential long term damage that can be done. Like ioka said, infertility is a high risk as chlamydia causes the tubes to become blocked at the very ends. This is known as hydrosalpinx. They can also develop scar tissue around the fallopian tubes that makes it more difficult for the tube to "pick up" the egg at the time of ovulation. If not infertility the infection can lead to increased risk of having an ectopic (tubal) pregnancy.
