Over the past couple of years, occassionally I would get a sharp pain in my right upper quadrant. I didn't think much of it because I already know I suffer from both IBS and PCOS so thought it may have been associated with them. These pains only lasted a couple of seconds so I never worried.
They got slight worse leading up to January of this year, and everytime I thought I may mention it to the doctor the next time I was there. However, in January they were consistently bad, building up for about a week before I saw the doctor. The pain in my stomach was sharp, and I started to get pains in my back, my stomach was also becoming very tender to touch and I felt generally sick with it. Pains in my back were spread across the middle of my back and in my right shoulder blade. On the thursday at work one morning the pain in my back was so bad, they best way to describe it is exhausting, I was just about to pack up and go home, when they suddenly eased (only to come back later). Still in pain, I decided I must go to see my gp, he instantly sent me up to the hospital with suspected gallstones. They did a blood test, urine test and an ultrasound, all of which came back fine. The pain was getting worse and worse while I was in hospital, but I was sent home with some cocodamol and some antacid tablets. Never of which worked. It felt like someone had tied a large rope around my back and was pulling it tighter and tighter!
The pain gradually eased over the next couple of days, but it has never gone away. The pain also varies a lot, which makes it quite difficult to explain. The pain in the right hand side of my stomach can be dull or sharp, if its dull it normally lasts for longer, sometimes feeling like a bruise. The pain in across my back hasnt been too bad, but I frequently feel pain under my right shoulder blade and this lasts for a long time. I have had a few pains over in my stomach on the left hand side, which was quite an intense pain, but only occurred a couple of times. Recently I have felt a pain a bit lower in my stomach. Also occassionally I have felt a kind of fluttering on pulsing (not sure how to describe it) on the right hand side, but this doesnt cause any pain.
Cocodamol doesnt help the pain, ibruprofen does seem to help, but there are occassions when it does nothing.
I have since had an endoscopy and and HIDA scan, both which has come back fine.
I'm very frustrated because the doctors seem to have no urgency about them and do not explained much to me. They said it seemed to point to my gallbaldder, but that I'm a bit of a mystery! I'm not sure what their next step is either. I've been able to go to work, but there are times when I feel exhausted from it all.
