Q: unrefreshing sleep

Hi there.

I have suffered with un-refreshing sleep for a long time now, I cant remember when it started it was so long ago.

I wake up every morning (having tossed and turned all night) absolutely shattered, some days are worse than other but I am always dog tired.
My family life and business are starting to suffer now. I can't concentrate and have massive mood swings because I am exhausted.

I do not have a problem falling asleep or staying asleep, although I do wake up while I am tossing and turning.

I have been tested for sleep apnoea by the hospital and told that I don't have the condition. I do have a sinus problem which was operated on in 2007, but I still get sinus infections at the drop of a hat. However my GP assures me that this isn't linked with my sleep problem (on which he offers no advice at all).

Can anyone can shed any light or make any suggestions?

Same problem, I know how INCREDIBLY frustrating it is. I wake up exhausted and disoriented... mostly because I think I'm dreaming so much. I also have major depression so that is probably the cause. If you know of any solutions let me know.. I'm in the same boat. I haven't felt rested for around 1 year now.. every morning is hell. I found that the best thing is to treat the psychological problems= stress, anxiety, depression.. and balance your sleep schedule. Go to bed early and get up early. Exercise every day if you can.. or go for a walk.. something that tires you out (yea i know you're already tired). Try not to watch television or stare at screens before bedtime as this is sort of stimulating for your brain. If you want you can try taking 25-50mg of Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) to see if this improves the quality of your sleep (did slightly for me)... If you wake up tossing and turning you may have periodic limb movement disorder. Are your sheets all messed up? I would try and get an appointment with a sleep specialist, and maybe get another study done.
