My boyfriend and I had unprotected sex Saturday morning. I usually take my pill at one p.m., but I wasn't home at that time, and by the time I came home I had forgotten. So, I took it today at 10. Also, I have started spotting as a consequence of the late pill. How likely is it that I am/ will become pregnant?

if you miss a pill you should still be protected so long as you take it as soon as your remember(which you did) just make sure you continue to take your other pills as you normally would, even if you took this pill 20hrs late you still need to make sure you have taken the missed pill as well as the pill for that day...but you should still be protected if you miss just one

worrywart is correct - according to most pill packets, missing one pill, as long as you remember to take it, does not compromise your protection. It is, however, very important to continue taking your pills like you would if you had not missed a pill.

I think that the pharma companies that create the pills make errors on the side of pre-caution. This is probably to cover their own butts in terms of the law. They don't want to be sued for claims that cannot be backed up.

Although many people will say that antibiotics effect the pill, there are no clinical studies PROVING that this is true. All studies have shown no link between antibiotic use and unintended pregnancy while using hormonal contraception. However, there have been many more real-life stories involving antibiotics and the pill. Most doctors recommend using back-up while on antibiotics and 7 days after because it simply is the safest way to not take any chances. So, in reality, it is very unclear whether there is a relationship between the two.

What kind of a pill are you on? If it is a progestin-only pill, then missing one day is a bigger deal than on the combined pill.
