What if you wait six? Because I am on day 6 of my first pack, and today my boyfriend and I had protected sex and he came, and then an hour later we had unprotected sex, but he wasn't even close to coming, yet we stopped. He may have had sperm in his pre-cum. But since I was only like 6 hours away from taking my 7th pill, am I protected?

also, sorry if it's bad etiquette to ask a question on top of someone's old question, new here and I just kind of want answers cause I'm a bit nervous right now :/

hdflo, it depends on the type of pill and how you started it. With many pills you are protected from day 1 if you do a first period day start. If you do a first Sunday start with these pills, the 7 day rule should be applied. The easiest is just to apply the 7 day rule always.

Even if you do not use any birth control, you will not be in your fertile window (the time where his sperm can survive inside you to catch an egg) until about 5 days before you ovulate. If your cycles are around the 28 day average, this fertile window will only start on day 9 at the earliest.

Do yourself a favor though, read the insert that came with your pills. Pay special attention to what to do when you miss a pill and what will make the pill less effective. By far the most failures of the pill to prevent regnancy is because women does not know this.

Take care.
