I have a friend whose husband must undergo
blood transfusions every year. He has had
these treatments done for a three - five
years as she tells me and the treatments
usually last for about a year. About three
months ago he had another one and
apparently he isn't doing well and the
doctor told him he didn;t have much longer
to live.
Apparently he goes to the hospital has
this done and leaves later in the day.
She tells me that the doctor does not know
what's wrong with him. This makes
absolutely no sense to me since the doctor
told him he did not have much longer to
live.
I think it is entirely possible he knows
but is not telling her, but agian, that
makes no sense to me either.
Has anyone ever heard of such a problem?
He is of Mexican and Native American
descent. She is really upset and is about
ready to have a breakdown.
Thanks

Have the doctors run any scans to check
for blood loss?
They must be monitoring his blood through
tests, it would be a good idea for them to
go for another opinion.
As you mentioned he might know and does
not want her to know. If this is the case
can you talk to him and tell him how
worried his wife is, that she is scared?
He may think he is protecting her by not
telling her what is really going but in
the long run it's hurting her more by not
knowing.
If he does know the other thing is can
this problem be inherited, if they have
kids, it would be good know.
Did his parents have any type of problems
like this?

all I know is that supposedly once a year
he goes in and has blood transfussions. it
makes no sense to me as he returns home at
the end of the day. He is working.
Supposedly these treatments last for a
year, but last one onlyfor a few months.
Supposedly doctors told him he was going
to die but have no idea what the problem
is Supposedly a "research doctor" is
working on this.
Why I am confused is if a doctor tells him
he doesn't have to much longer to live and
has lived longer than expected, they must
have some idea of what the problems are
and what he is going through. This makes
absolutely no sense to me.
She told me once the doctor told him he
would not survive much longer his health
insurance plan cut him off but reinstated
him when he didn't die. This whole story
is suspicious to me or I am missig
something. A health plan would perhaps
deny payment but not cut him off and
reinstate insurance because he didn't
die.
I have some reason to believe he may be
homosexual and am wondering about AIDS due
to her reluctance to say. if it is then I
have reasons to be concerned. But she is
upset and tells me so. But there has to be
more to the story,

Is there any way you can talk to him?
Is he taking other medications such the
med's used for HIV/AIDS?
Maybe if you told your friend and
reassured her no matter what he has you
will be there for her, if in fact he has
AIDS maybe she is reluctant to tell you, I
believe in time she will tell you maybe
she is afraid of how you will react if
this is the case.
I can see how concerned you are and I
think it's wonderful that she has you.

there is no way I can talk to him, nor
would I desire to do that. I am more
concerned for her. Alll I know is that he
is on some type of medication that could
cause birth defects as she told me and he
had to undergo a vsectomy two years ago.
there was some mention of prostate
problems.... but she says docotrs do not
know what is wrong with him. i am at the
point I am having trouble beleiving the
story but she has always bee honest with
me which is why i am confused.
