2 years ago I started having pressure related headaches at night shortly after lying down. They start at base of scull and radiate over head to back of eyes. This is accompanied by a feeling of dizziness without the sensation of blacking out. Worse when lying on left side of head, least bad on back. Sometimes my arms also feel tingly and weak. Very restless, disturbed sleep. On waking I feel groggy and have pain around neck and base of scull if pressed. Usually feel fine during day. Also have lower back pain and sciatica from time to time. Feels like these are connected.Stress and PMT seem to add tension that makes it all worse, so I do a lot of relaxation and meditation. Acupuncture has helped in the past, but too expensive to continue. No one seems to be able to tell me what's going on other than an explanation like:'wear and tear' in vertebrae of neck and lower back.
I feel desperate to know what's going on and what cures there may be so that I can sleep properly at night like I used to.

Extremely eHealthy
Sorry, to repeat the same as you doctor, but your symptoms are really due to 'wear and tear' of spinal bones and discs between them in neck region, or in other words known as a cervical spondylosis.
Pain in the neck, neck stiffness after night rest, headache that starts at the back of the head just above the neck and travels over the top to the forehead, and numbness, pins and needles sensations or muscle weakness in part of the arm or hand, are all symptoms of this condition.
You can experience ear ringing and dizziness, too.
Neck exercises are important for relieving the pain, along with painkillers.
Supporting pillow is a good idea, too.
If you notice that your neck pain and headaches are constant, chronic ones, with worse intensity and you have tingling sensations in your arms and hands, you should visit your physician.
This can be due to irritated, pressed or trapped nerve and surgery may be needed to solved this.
Spondylosis can affect the lumbar region of the spine, too.
Usually, goes asymptomatic (without symptoms), but, can lead to back pain after prolonged periods of sitting, lifting and bending.

Best wishes!

thanks
Thanks for that info Marija. It's what I suspected from what other doctors have said.
You suggested neck exercises: any specific ones you know about?
Would be much appreciated. Thanks.
