hi,

I'm a 29 yr old male who for the past week and a half has had a recurring pain in the in my right lower back.
the pain was a mild soreness at first but has since gotten very bad. the pain comes and goes when it pleases but mostly occurs in the afternoons. when the pain is at it worst, i begin to feel nauseous and week. also when the pain occurs i feel the need to urinate with sometimes not much coming out.

I've see the doctor, who thought it was a urinary infection. he put me on antibiotics and sent my sample away for testing. the test came back negative.

On saturday night the pain & nausea was so intense that i went to the hospital. again they tested my urine for UTI and stones.. both came back negative.

I'm booked to go for a CT scan next week. but I'm a bit worried it could be something serious.

Do stones not always show up on urine tests?

Hi

It sounds like you have a kidney stone. The stone(s) might be small.
Did they do any type of scan to check for stones at the hospital?
Stones don't show up on urine test, blood in the urine is an indication of stones but if the stones are not moving blood may not be present at that time.
Some people get renal colic with or without stones which can cause a great amount of pain.
If the doctor did a 24 hour collection and blood test it would show if you you have high amounts of uric acid, calcium, sodium, etc...

Does the pain get worse with increasing your fluids?
Another possibility is UPJ or UVJ obstruction which are obstructions within the ureter tube near the kidney (UPJ) or obstruction near the bladder (UVJ) this is usually caused by a kink in the ureter tube or scarring in the tube.
The CT scan will give a better idea of what is going on.
Best wishes and please keep us posted.

The only way to see UPJ obstructions is with CT scans or x-rays. Let us know what you find out. Good luck.

This can happen to male or female at anytime. It mostly occurs at birh but isn't found until the doctor is performing a scan for another problem. My child was born with this. They picked it up on an routine ultrasound.

I'm sorry they said they didn't find anything. Is it posible you had kidney stones and passed them.
I would recommend going to your local home improvement store and get paint strainers to stran your urine. If in fact you are having stones you will catch them in the strainer. Not all stones show up on scans. They can be the tinest thnigs and hurt like ****.

If you are not satified with the wave answers your doctor gave you get another opinion. This is your health and you know your body better than anyone.
I wish you the best..
