Hello,

I just came from a local emergency hospital with a diagnosis of soft tissue back pain. This was all they could tell me. They did not have access to an ultrasound machine, appartently it was not functioning. They ruled out a bladder infection yet there was blood in my urine. I was given a prescription for naproxin and was given a shot of it as well.

My lower back pain began on Easter morn, with a severe cramp in my lower left backside. This pain then progressed to the other side of my lower back, with radiating pain down both legs. At the same time I had cramps in my pelvic which felt like I had my period. This morn, just prior to going to the hospital I had not again slept very long(approx. 3hours) due to the pain, and was therefore tired and extremely stiff and sore. I'm generally in good health and do not experience back pain at all. While trying to get ready for my day, I was completly siezed with pain. I could not bend, walk straight or turn to extend. So I went to emergency.

Also,I started what looked like my period, upon wiping, everytime I urinated. This occured throughout the day. I also passed long clots, which are not usual for me. The doctor at the hospital simply dismissed my period bleeding stating that she could not explain why I was in fact bleeding, (I just had my mensus approx. 1 and a half week ago; I am 39 years old and began menstrating at 9, could this be due to premenopause?)

I am to follow up with my doctor. However, she is away for the next few days. I was wondering if you could offer some further advice that would help explain the menstrual symptoms, if they are at all related.

Any info. would be sincerely appreciated.

Thanking in advance,
Paula

Your symptoms sound more like you had a miscarriage, even though you say you had your period a week ago.

Was your last menses a normal flow for you?

Since this bleeding began about 1 1/2 weeks after your last menses and you passed long clots, you should see your GYN right away for a pelvic exam to try and determine what is going on.

Is your doctor that is away, your GYN? Do you have a GYN that you use?

You do need to be seen by a doctor for a full pelvic exam and some tests to determine what may or may no be going on.

Good luck

Fran
