I am a 37 yr old female. Two years ago,
July 8, 2006, I was hit by a car while
walking across the street. I was able to
walk immediately after the accident. I
suffered severe pain from head to toe for
more than two months after the accident.
The only visible abnormality was/is a lump
in the middle of my lower back. Because
of my lack of insurance, doctors are not
eager to be of much help.
Initially there appeared only to be
soft tissue injury. I was prescribed PT
and told I could expect to endure pain for
as much as 8 mos. A year and a half
later, after most of my body seemed to
recover I noticed extreme pain in my
sacrum, ilium, left hip, and IT band.
After seeing a specialist and getting
x-ray I returned to PT. While recieving
massage I screamed in pain when touched on
my back, the ilium bone in its entirity
felt pain to the touch.
My sacrum has twice had to be
rotated by a physical therapist. I had an
MRI of my lower back which was normal. I
now have an order for a hip and pelvis
MRI.
I suffer pain daily, and have
limited range of motion. When I stand up
after sitting I nearly always stumble from
pain in my hip/pelvis area. Sometimes my
leg feels heavy in the hip socket like I
am dragging its weight. The pain ranges
from sharp and stabbing, to burning,
gnawing, and even tenderness or bruising.
My pain also ranges from 2-7, but is
always present, even as a minor
discomfort. I am not able to enjoy any
physical activities and usually suffer
extreme pain at the onset of any over
exersion, (over exersion for me now a days
is walking a small incline). I am unable
to sit in the lotus position, (Indian
style), and some times feel pressure on my
pelvis.
At the time of my accident I was in
top physical condition, I swam 30 laps a
day, could run, hike, play catch with my
dog, snowboard, climb trees, fences,
jump....now all of these are unmanagable
and sitting,walking, standing, lifting,
even when I am at rest in bed are also
causes of increased pain, sometimes to the
point of tears.
This is the first serious injury I
have encountered. I want to know if this
could still be soft tissue. I have a law
suit pending and no lawyer wants my case
because there is no medical proof
supporting my claim of pain, but it is
there. I never realised how much of my
identity was involved in my physical well
being, I was very active. I am no longer
able to complete my usual activities
without help and have not returned to
work. If anyone could lead me in a
direction that may find a diagnosis, or
help me accept this is somehow it, I live
like this without understanding its source
and I forever am dependent and abstractly
disabled, I would so appreciate your
input. I have no where else to turn and
am desperate.
I do find some relief in my PT, but
nothing significant or prolonged. I have
been prescribed percocet for pain, but
take them only when the pain is unbearable
and I have to stay in bed all day. Thank
you for your time.
