Greetings and thanks in advance for your advice. I am a professional cyclist and this past May I began to gradually feel weak and noticed a marked increase in my exercise heart rate with an increase in perceived exertion despite lesser performance. I thought I simply needed more rest. About a month (late June) after the onset of these strange symptoms I developed a bit of a chest cold and then, not 48 hours later, was laid up in bed with flu-like symptoms for about 7 days. This was the first week of July, 09. Since then I have had a persistent "cold" and the original fatigue I felt has persisted. I also occasionally experience sharp pain, mostly upon physical exertion, on the upper right side of my abdomen.

I recently had some blood work done and both my ALT and AST liver enzymes were slightly elevated and my monocyte count was elevated. I was initially concerned that I might be having heart problems but the RN at the walk in clinic at which I had the blood work done is convinced that I had infectious mono and am still suffering, 4 months later, from symptoms of the illness. In my uneducated opinion this seems like too long a period for mono symptoms to be present. I am hoping someone with more experience may be able to comment.
