Q: Undescended testical ?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on April 3rd, 2009
My son is three and at his last check up the doctor said that he could not find my son's right testicle. He is not sure if it is retractile or undescended. He wants to check him again in 3 months. Is there a way I myself could check it to see if it is really undescended?

You might want to use a warm bath in order for the testicle to descend if it is retracted with the cremaster muscle and make it easier to be touched.
If you are not able, the doctor might use pelvic ultrasound exam or abdominal MRI. If cryptorchidism (not descended testicle) is confirmed, then orchiopexy (adequate surgical procedure) might be recommended.
