asked by: DoctorQuestion on January 23rd, 2009
I have a friend who has a almost 5 month old daughter who only weighs 5.2 kgs and just isn't gaining weight. She was normal weight at birth about 3 3.5 kgs. She has seeked helped but not much testing has been done. What could be possibilities? She is healthy otherwise and is bottled feed.

According to my formula, a baby that was born with 3,5 kg, after 5 months should be about 6,5 kg. It appears that the baby is a little underweight. There could be many reasons for this underweight (genetic, racial, nutritive…), which I can’t speculate on without any medical examination.
