Around April 2008 I had two months of severe weekness in my spine and legs - i was unablw to walk and hold my weight, often happening through the night when i got up for my young children. I had an MRI but nothing showed.
Dec 2008, after having 2 weeks of severe headaches and vision spots/stars and clouding of blackness on the outer edges I went to A E,I was kept in Emergency Care with a stiff left arm and pins and needles and some purple-ling in my hand, the next day it spread to my left foot and lower leg. Each time it lasted a few hours then slowly wore off and I needed to pass urine. I had CAT scan and Lumber Puncture, normal - so I was sent home.

The next morning I was back in EC being sick and unable to stand without being forced over to the right, causing me to unable to sit or stand up. My vision was darkened and i couldn't stand light. While there my right leg started to stiffen up now increasing to 3 and half hours - and I could always feel the Dr tickling my limbs - by the 5th day, since the weakness had started, I was paralysed from the neck dow for 5 and half hours. Being Deaf and using Sign to communicate with my husband - this really scared me not having use of my hands. Also Each time it got longer - is the next time going to longer? is it going to be permanent?

Since coming out of hospital I have had an MRI - normal - seen a nuerologist - no neuro issues. MS and Stroke were mentioned early on - could the scans have missed anything?

4 weeks ago I went back to A E with a stiff purple right arm twice but sent home, this lasted more than a week and on returning to work two weeks ago (Im still under 6 months of my new job so I didnt want to loose my job) - I still had a painful right arm which lasted up till the Wed pm of the second week. I have had a lot of dizzy spells from picking things up and bending down and even turning around.

But now I was worried as a new symptom happened – On Sunday 15th Feb 09 as I stood up off the sofa I was dizzy - as usual - but I lost my vision fully for a few seconds - it started on the outer edges closing in to the centre, loosing whole vision, then it slowing started to open up again - in both eyes. I also had pins and needles all over my face at he time when i had the vision disturbances. the pains lasted a couple of minutes.
Ive been back and forward to Emergency this week from 16th Feb 09. I went to emergency with the above facial pains and vision disturbances which had the dr looking at my MRI from early JAn. There was something to see - a pocket of fluid in my right sinis - which he said would cause vertigo headaches and vision probs - but not the weakness of limbs before Christmas. I was given 1 wk of anti-biotics.

On Wed19th Feb 09 I had chest pains and uncontrollable shaking of my whole body from the neck down - No one could take me to Hosp so an ambulance came and they told me the shaking was likely to be panick responce, but I've panicked years ago and not had symptoms like this. At emergency I had a chest xray which eliminated heart problems and a blood clot in my lungs.

Im now home – Sat 21st Feb and Sun 22nd Feb - and I’ve got pins and needles in my tongue - varying from around the edges to all over
Im not sure if this is connected but - Ever since I was a little girl around 6 I remember getting aching cramped legs at night – this has now increased over the past 5 years to complete body jumping or whole limb jerking through the night which keeps my husband awake and sometimes wakes me up. I am currently taking Quinnine Sulphate and Pramipaxine for this - it helps with the pains but not the jerking/jumping, My right shoulder/arm seems to be the worse offender at the moment.

Im worried as Im not getting anywhere with the Specialists - they are just working their way illiminating things.

Does this makes sense to anyone? Could this be MS?

MS is not something that is easy to dx...it is a process of eliminating other diseases...and one disease alone may not be causing your health concerns, it could be a combination of things.

Be persistent and keep a journal...best way to remember when things happen and how long it lasts.

tongue tingling - day 20 now
You can tell Im new to this so I'll keep to the same posting -

My tongue started tingling on 15th Feb09 - and it is still! driving me mad - day 20 now

Ive had a splint made for my teeth which will be ready in a couple of days.

The edging of my tongue is tingling which I can understand possibly being from the touching of my teeth - but my tongue is also painful underneath all along to the base, and on the bottom surface of my mouth under my tongue.

DOes anyone with MS have this ?

Or is this a separate issue?

- my tongue and lower jaw/mounth is still tingling - it's 18th March 09 now - so 4 and half weeks of going mad here (since 15th Feb 09)

- I have not mentioned this to my neurologist or GP doctor yet as I thought it would settle down and I now have an appointment for a dye with MRI in the Easter hols (3 weeks away) so thought I'd wait till then to mention it

- is this normal (for MS or any other illness) to last every day all day for so long? should I inform my neuro sooner rather than later?

this is driving me mad - it is so distracting when Im working, eating, sleeping etc

further attack
Thursday (19.3.09) had another attack of what the docotor referred to as a Neurological attack

it took 20 minutes from start to the worst attack yet, which lasted about 2 and a hald hours before i starteds to regain movement - when fully paralysed I only had use of eyes - had difficulty breathing which then set off panic, i think, causing breathing to get worse

luckily i was already in hosptial to collect my new earmoulds (im deaf and wear hearing aids) so nurses came rushing to me and got me seen quickly.

the difference this time was that rather than just being limp like last time - this time I has in some sort of spasm (not sure if the right word) all 4 limbs were being pulled inwards - fist like - body icey cold yet i felt boiling - nurse brought a fan for me

I could not move my face to talk and head wwas forced backwards to i was looking at the ceiling (in sitting position)

doctors spoke to my neuro in a local hospital who kept him informed of whoat was going on -

This started at 3.40 with a metal rod feeling in left arm and by 4pm fully paralysed and twisted - by 6.20 it started to wear off and by 10pm i could hobble about and i thought best to move around to try and increase my blood circulation - if this was a cause

i was kept in over night and released at 2pm the next day - still wobbly but could walk about - then slept 4pm through till 7.30 next day which is today.

i feel much better today - weak but im up and about

worrying as this was worse than the last time i was paralysed and each time i have an attack, whether it is neuro or not - it is getting worse, stronger

im unsure if the next attack - if i have one - will be worse again and what should i expect to happen

ive been told to contact my GP if anything happens, rather than call 999 and go to emergancy, and he/GP/local doctor will get me straight into the correct hosptial to a neuro - going to accident and emergency i will just end up going through the system again.

but i need to know what to do at a weekend or in the night when GP Practice is not open. Im going to call GP about this.

Do the symtoms above ring a bell for anyone?

Guillain BArre has been mentioned by 2 specailists - thouight the specialists do not know... I had a stressful time when I took my employer - i worked for Gopvernment - to tribunal - the whole experience lasted early 05 till Sept 07.

Could these symptoms be a reaction/defence to stress? Guillain Barre?

any thoughts on this?

ps Ive still got pins and needles in my tongue - since 15th Feb 09 every day all day

Pins and needles in the tongue can be a sign of B12 deficiency. Wouldn't hurt to just go to the drug store and pick up some sublingual B12. You can't OD on the stuff as it's water soulable and any excess gets excreted in the urine. Best of luck.

I had my bloods checked for B12 a while ago and they came back fine

Ive now been told by my neuro that all my symptoms are caused by a delayed stress and that my current stress coping levels are very low (due to pass job situation) plus a bit of migraine - but he doesn't know which is triggering whcih, the migraine causing the stress now or the stress causing the migraines!

but as you say it wouldnt harm to try B12 suppliments

Im ready going to try anything

thanks
