I would just like to begin by saying that I haven't always had this problem. It started about 2 weeks ago. I just woke up one morning and wasn't able to breathe out of one side of my nose. It switches every once in a while but one side of my nose is always blocked. I've been to an ENT doctor and he told me that it was either a virus or allergies. The ENT doctor told me if it lasted over 7 to 10 days then it probably wasn't a virus. He put me on meds for allergies and they aren't really working. I've tried Veramyst, Xyzal, Claritin, Maxifed, and Sudafed. Sudafed felt like it was helping a tiny bit at first but isn't anymore. I'm also taking Singulair to help me breathe at night, but I don't think that's helping either. Also, I don't know if this might be what's wrong but my ENT doctor told me my septum was C-shaped.

I started taking Benadryl recently and at first it opened me up pretty good. It's not really helping me now, is that normal? It seems all the allergy meds I've tried helps a little at first then stops. Even when they do help me breathe better it still seems like something is still blocked on one side of my nose. When this first started the only problem I was experiencing was just one side of my nose was blocked. Now I feel pressure below my eyes, behind my ears, and even on the bridge of my nose sometimes. I've noticed when I blow my nose there's a little bit of blood on the tissue. The worst one of them all is when I stand up after I've woken up or sat down for a while, I'll get really dizzy and everything goes black for a minute.

Any help would be very appreciated. It's a bit hard to sleep and concentrate because I can't breathe too good anymore.

Hi Foxhellion!! Well I hope that your ENT soon find the reason and can give you an exact treatment for what you have. A near friend has more less the same symptoms that you, but he was recently diagnosed with sinusitis, he does not take any drug (unless he really feels bad) but he uses a saline solution in his nose to help open it, and also sleeps with some special nose bands (the ones used in some sports to breath). Maybe one of those 2 things he do are useful for you, ask your specialist for this tools in your treatment.

Thank you for answering Smile

I've been to the ENT doctor and he told me it was allergies and he's trying me on nasal sprays. I'm currently on Veramyst and Astepro. They help me breathe a little bit better but I still can't breathe as good as I used to. Is this normal for someone who has allergies? Should I expect to breathe normally again with medication or nasal sprays? I've been wanting to just have turbinate reducation surgery and just get it over with since nothing helps me breathe as good as I used to. When is surgery necessary? When I talked to my ENT doctor about the surgery he told me that he didn't know if I could have it or not considering I'm 17. Apparently you have to be fully grown for the surgery. Although I've heard of much younger people having the surgery.

I've heard of the saline nose spray but it sounds so unpleasant to use, haha. Oh, and as for the blacking out when I got up, I've been told that it has to do with your blood sugar..

Jasen: I'm sorry you're having problems. What I tried when this first started was Mucinex, Benadryl, and Sudafed. Only sudafed helped me..maybe one of those three could help you? Symposier has a good idea, I heard saline nose spray helps a lot of people Smile Hopefully it can help you too.
