Q: ultrasound and due date

Well I went to my u/s today. My doctor told me that I was 36 weeks along last week when i went to the doctor. They said today, that according to the u/s I am only 34 weeks along. This is confusing to me because I know when I got pregnant and according to that I should be 38 weeks along. Im so confused. Im already carrying low and the baby is in position. I am so confused, should I be worried that my son is only 5.5lbs ? It is very confusing to me. I know when I had sex, and if i am only 34 weeks along I wouldve been on my period again when there saying that I got pregnant. Is it possible Im jsut having a small baby? My babys dad was a small baby, could my son just be taking after him? Help! I dont know what to think!

It is confusing. Ultrasound dating this late in your pregnancy is not really accurate.

But you ARE 36 weeks and 34 weeks. How does that work? You are 36 weeks LMP (Last Menstrual Period). The baby is 34 weeks along, since 2 weeks AFTER your LMP was when s/he was conceived. Your due date is based on the LMP. But we all know babies come when ever they are ready.

Don't worry, a week or two is normal. Your baby's weights are good. Babies gain the most weight in the last few weeks.

I agree with Mabel, ultrasounds are only a estimate. My friend had one two weeks before she had her son and they said he was 8 lbs and he would be 9 when she delivered and he was only 6lbs 7oz. So they really are not the most accurate. All the ultrasounds I had tell me I am 2 weeks further, so who knows. I wouldn't be to worried about it. Good luck hun!

The thing that confuses me though is that my Last Menstural Period was 38 weeks ago, not 36 weeks ago. Thanks for the responses. I just wish that it was more consistent. I hate that they keep moving my due date back. Its so annoying and confusing. Thanks for the help. I know hell come when hes ready but it still stresses em out a whole lot.

Then techincally you are 36 weeks along, as its the date of your LMP. 5.5 lbs is fine for a 36 weeker. My son was 5 lbs 7 ounces and was born at 34 weeks. It all depends on genetics. U/S done this late are a bit less accurate as it is harder to measure a scrunched up fetus losing space in the uterus rapidly! Smile

I wouldn't worry too much. Your little one will come when he is good and ready. But weight and length can be off by /- 1-2 lbs in late pregnancy when estimated by ultrasound.

i was told with my first i was going to have a 5lbs baby and ended up having a 9lbs baby so there ya go, and i was told that about 3 weeks before i had him.
