Digestive and Bowel Disorders Answer A8534
Hi and welcome to the forum! I am glad that I can help you.

You would like to know whether an ulcer affects the bowel movement.

An ulcer may appear in the stomach or in the duodenal intestine. Pain is the common symptom of these ulcers. It is located in the upper part of the abdomen. In a stomach ulcer the pain appears one to two hours after eating, while in a duodenal ulcer the pain appears before having a meal and it is eased with eating. The ulcer may start bleeding and individuals may vomit red blood or the vomit may be colored dark to black like coffee. Individuals may not vomit, but may have changes in the color of the stool which becomes dark to black. An ulcer doesn't affect the bowel movement in any way.

Given the data that you provided you may or may not be experiencing an ulcer. You may consider seeing a gastroenterologist for further diagnosis. You may consider having a gastroscopy or scan.

Please keep in mind that I provide medical information only. I am not able to diagnose medical conditions online. Please contact your doctor or other qualified healthcare provider such as a gastroenterologist for further advice and information about diagnosis and treatment options.
