With a substantial majority, British MPs voted down attempts to reduce the time limit on abortions:

That's fantastic news! Isn't it ironic that the country founded to escape oppression from England is now more oppressive than said country? Women have more rights in the UK than they do in the US and-when pregnant-they aren't treated as criminals in the UK for imbibing in the same chemicals and activities that are legal for everyone else.

If I still lived in the USA I'd move to the UK if I could. Australia is almost as cool, though.

I watched the voting on BBC Parliament (I may live to regret admitting to such a sad pastime Razz) and was so relieved that the new proposals were rejected (and with a substantial majority). I was actually convinced that it would be lowered to 20 weeks, given the big hype about it.

Labour MP Dawn Primarolo said that ultimately "the decision [to abort] should be left down to the women who will face the consequences of that decision". I agree and expand this to even later-term pregnancies. For crying out loud the deranged loonies who would hypothetically abort at eight months would be extremely low. So low that they're barely worth counting. But even so, as much as the frivolity behind such people's decision may disgust us, it is not our body or choice or consequences to make frivolous decisions about.

Let's emancipate abortion for all.

24 is an excellent time limit; it's well before viable development, giving women the time they need to discover the pregnancy and get the funds they need to abort.
