Hysterectomy Answer A6670
Hysterectomy is a surgery in which the uterus is removed. Total abdominal hysterectomy means that the complete uterus is removed (both the corpus and the cervix). Subtotal hysterectomy means that only the fundus of the uterus is removed, where as the cervix remains intact. Radical hysterectomy means that the uterus is removed completely together with the upper vagina and parametrium.

A hysterectomy is performed: in certain types of reproductive system cancers, in severe endometriosis, after giving birth in severe cases of placenta praevia or placenta acreta, or as prophylaxis in patients with a high risk of reproductive system cancers.

Since the hysterectomy is a surgery and it takes time for the wound and sutures to heal, having penetrative intercourse before six weeks is not recommended. Masturbation or sexual play that does not require vaginal penetration is allowed without any consequences. So, you might want to enjoy this before returning to vaginal intercourse. Please note, that anal penetration might also damage the tissue and cause vaginal bleeding because of the close positions of both the wound and the rectum (the final part of the intestines).

In the end, you might want to consult with your gynecologist as to what kind of sexual play would be safe for you based on the actual type of hysterectomy and the speed of healing.
