Q: Two month old's feeding schedule

Hey everyone! I just have a quick question. How much/often did your child eat when they were two months old? If you can remember that is. I'm asking because my doctor feels like we are overfeeding Brina. I don't really think that I am. We start out give her four ounces but then she usually screams for more-even if I make her wait. She usually eats every 4-6 hours during the day and has been sleeping through the night since she was about 3 weeks old. My doc is also concerned about that. I'm not supposed to wake a sleeping baby am I? I just don't understand what she wants me to do. When my daughter's asleep, it's almost impossible to wake her up. She gets very angry. If she doesn't want to eat, she will not eat. I'm just looking for advice from other mom's. I guess I should mention her stats now too. She was 9 lbs at birth and 21 inches long. At her 2 month check up yesterday she was 12 lbs 7 oz and 24 1/4 inches long. Her height is in the 95th percentile and her weight is in the 90th percentile. She really doesn't have a whole lot of chunk. She's just now really getting chubby cheeks and legs. Her belly is still pretty small. I don't know. I just want a little guidance from people who have been there before. TIA

Stefanie

It sounds like she is doing just fine, I wouldn't worry. She will let you know when she is hungry. I think at 2 months, Cheyenne was eating ever 4 hours and would only take 4 ounces. She was about 11 and a half pounds then, but I don't remember her length.

Might I add, you are lucky that she sleeps through the night! Cheyenne is 7 months now and we had about 3 weeks where she slept through the night, and that was it. Now she's up at least once and stays up 1-2 hours. I'm a little jealous that your daughter sleeps through!!!

I hope this doesn't offend you, but it sounds like your doctor is a nut job. Brina sounds PERFECTLY healthy and is already sleeping through the night! Babies know when they're hungry and how much they need to eat. She has gained an adequate amount of weight - not too much by any means. She's gained a little over 3 pounds since birth. Here's how Kaylee grew by 2 months: she weighed 6 lbs. 6 oz. at birth and was 9 lbs. 9 oz. at 2 months. That's 3 lbs!!! So Brina is doing great and you're doing everything you should be doing. I honestly might consider switching doctors if she's going to make you question your parenting abilities, but that's just me.

I'm definitely looking in to switching doctors. I don't force my child to eat at all. I'm also not a big fan of paci's. She won't take a paci if she's hungry anyways. That makes me feel better though guys. Thanks so much!

Ava was drinking about 5 oz every 3 hours at 2 months. I wouldn't wake a sleeping baby to feed them.

I read on your blog that you've given her ceral and stage 1 foods.
Has her Dr ordered this, or have you just started on your own?

I ask this because Oni's Dr started her on cereal at 3 weeks and solids at 5. And then claimed I was overfeeding her and she'll be obese.

Oni's still big. And still eats a lot. But she's nowhere to being obese.

Anyways, Nya was put on cereal at 3 weeks. And her Dr starts infants on solds at 7/8weeks.

With Oni, I feel like she was just a paci baby.
But with Nya, if she's comepletely satifsifed and full, she doesn't take a paci.
And I LOVE that. I really don't want Nya having a paci...at all. Cuz it's a mother to get em to stop taking it when they're older.

I saw her pics and she's absolutely gorgeous!!!! And looks JUST like you!!!!!
HER HAIR IS AMAZING!!!!!!

I wouldn't listen to what your doctor said.. you're doing a great job. Jenny was having about 3 or 4oz every 4 hours when she was that age I think (it's a loooong time ago now!) but she was a small baby.. when she was newborn she'd have less than 1oz sometimes. Her birth weight was 5lb 1oz & at 2 months old she was 8lb 14oz.

Not sure B.

I got a handbook of his "views" about anything you could think of asking about a newborn.
I got one with Oni too...it ain't changed...at all.

I learned a lot about him from reading it...he's strange. But to some, he's right on.

She told us to start the cereal because she was drinking about 40 oz of formula a day at one point. Her appetite was just insatiable. I just went with my guy on the stage 1 food and on the advice of my mom. When her appetite increased again we started the stage 1's. I don't give her a lot really just enough to satisfy her.

I totally understand. Oni ate a lot too. She was eating 6oz by 4 weeks.

Nya is 7 weeks and eats 6oz every 4 hours. Sometime with sugar water inbetween, but that's just to calm her down if she wakes up with gas. The warm water works WAY better than Mylicon.

Saves me LOTS!!

Anyways, every Dr is different, as is every parent. One will say one thing, and the next will disagree/agree. you never know.

Was her Dr telling you to give her cereal by spoon or in the bottle? I saw that she was eating from a spoon and that's GREAT!
Cereal in the bottle sucks.

The doctor encourages eating with a spoon and that's what I prefer as well. She does have a touch of reflux though and if it's bad I'm supposed to put like a tablespoon of rice cereal in her bottle to thicken it up a little. It doesn't cause her to eat any less but they are just trying to weigh the formula down a little to keep it from coming back up. We are working on not doing that but sometimes it's a must. They do make Similac Sensitive R.S. which is lactose free and has rice starch in it that only expands once it enters the stomach. The doctor gave us two ready to feed bottles of it, but it's extremely expensive and only comes in ready to feed. Because of the cost and the fact that it's only ready to feed we have her on target's lactose free formula and just add cereal when she really seems to need it. Truth be told though, she still refluxes with the expensive stuff. It's a lot better than it was when she was on the regular enfamil. My poor baby is just lactose intolerant-just like Mommy and Daddy.
