Q: Two faint positive tests and bleeding at 5 weeks

My husband and I have been TTC for the past few months. On the 2nd, I was due to have my period start and took a pregnancy test. The test was negative but I did not start bleeding. I took another pregnancy test on the 4th, and a very faint pink line appeared, indicating a positive test. At this point I had some very light brown discharge. The next day, on the 5th, I began having some red bleeding. I have not needed any pads as I have only been bleeding enough where I can take care of it when I go to the bathroom and wipe. At first the blood was red, then it had some very small clots (think pea to dime size). I woke up early in the morning (3am) on the 6th and decided to take another test. Again it said positive, yet I continued to bleed. The blood occasionally had stringy dark dark red consistancy.
For many days leading up to our first positive test, I had had very sore breasts, and now they are no longer sore.
I went to the Dr. and they did a vaginal ultrasound. They said they were not able to see anything except the corpus lutieum (sp?) from ovulating. The took my blood hcg on the 6th and said to come back to test again on the 9th. I have not gotten any results back yet and they are telling me I had a miscarriage.

Any advice? Suggestions? Similar experiences?
