Q: Tumor pathology
asked by: DoctorQuestion on December 11th, 2008
i have a 2" oval large hard lump that is slowly getting larger right under my left jaw. the doctors have told me it is nothing to worry about but it keeps getting larger and is now noticable to people when they see me and that bothers me. none of the doctors here have actually told me what the problem or cause is. nicaragua's health service is not the greatest. an ear, nose and throat specialist said he could take it out it i wanted him to for $1400 which i don't have anything near that. when i told him i didn't have that kind of money, he just said the lump was nothing to worry about, but antibiotics and antinflammatories are not doing a lot to make it smaller even for a little while. any suggestions? i am worried and don't feel that i am overeacting, but no one in the medical field here seems to want to help me.

Current medical status: 2" long oval hard lump right on top of my thyroid glands. i guess it could be a throid glan, i don't know. it is right under my left jaw. i have had it for a year and it keeps getting larger
Current medical treatment: antifnflammitory and antibiotic every 2 or 3 months. 3 different doctors, plus one dentist visit to check to see if it was a dental problem. all in nicaragua, central america where the medical care is not the most relible.

According to the data you reported (lump under jaw, does not react to antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs), you might be having a tumor tissue. Any lump that increases significantly within several months might turn out to be a tumor tissue. Whether it is benign or malignant, tumor tissue can not be determined without a biopsy or maybe completely removing the lump and further microscopic examination.
