I am a student so I have insurance through the university and there are only two ob/gyns. They said if I have gotten 4 negatives I'm obviously not pregnant and it would be a waste to do a blood. She said that they are 99% accurate and to not worry about my missed period. I am really at a loss as to what to do; I've read so many forums and stories of people not getting a positive until 8 weeks of pregnancy....I want to be hopeful, but the doctors are so negative and are bringing me down
Boooo to the doctors! What a bunch of yahoo's lol. Just because you have gotten a negative definately does not mean you are not pregnant. Sometimes HCG levels take a bit depending on how your body reacts to the hormone. I took a test when I was a week late and nothing showed up (actually a nurse took it when I was going in for a colposcopy and it came out negative). Took the test a week later and got a faint blue plus sign. Pee tests are not 99% accurate. The best way to find out for sure is the blood test it's the only way to measure the HCG levels and if the pregnancy is progressing as it should. I'm not a doctor and even I am confident in that. Don't let the doctor's bring you down and try somewhere else. stay positive and good luck! I hope for the best for you!
My doctor kept saying that if I haven't gotten my period, they can give me progesterone to induce it. I'm scared that'll force a period even if I'm pregnant, but someone told me it wouldn't do that and progesterone is even used to help support early pregnancy. Has anyone used that. I'm thinking that my only option is to go to the ER...do they do blood tests there?
Not sure where you live but in Canada the ER does do a blood test only if you say you are pregnant and are having cramps or bleeding. I'm not sure I'd take that progesterone but that's just personal opinion (Not quite sure what it does, have you tried looking it up on the net?). Any kind of pill to force something on in my opinion isn't good for your body (unless it's birth control then I'm okay with that lol). Like when I was going through my first m/c, they wanted to give me a pill to quicken it but I just went through it naturally (denial may have been why but I just felt more comfortable on my own). May I ask when your last period was? And if you're fairly regular? Also, when did you test?
My last period was May 19th, usually I have a 42 days cycle, and even though its long, it is regular. I tested June 30, July 4th, July 10th, and July 13th. I'm scared I'm in denial, but in the past week I've experienced heartburn for the first time (I've never gotten it before) and I think acid reflux? I keep having the taste of vomit in my mouth right before I eat. I'm crying at everything I see and read including commercials. I've never been this prone to just weeping. My breasts are swollen, and feel very heavy. I feel like my period is about to start but nothing. Not even spotting
Wow that is a long cycle! From the sounds of it you definately have pregnancy symptoms. Are you stressed out at all? Stress can delay a period from coming as well. So by my calculations, you should have gotten your period around June 30th? That was 2 weeks ago so maybe try next week if your period doesn't come again and see. Even if you see a faint line that's a positive. You may only be a couple weeks pregnant and the HCG levels may not be detectable yet in a pee test. I started to experience the heartburn all last week off and on as well and mood changes like crazy lol. I remember crying at random commercials too like animal commercials got to me the most cuz I'm an animal lover. If you've never been pregnant before, your body may take longer to show the HCG levels as well. We are all different so they may show at different "weeks" into a pregnancy. Just keep trying and don't give up hope.
The only stress I've been having is all after July 4th, and it has just been worrying about my body, and the doctors being rude. Before that I went on vacation and just relaxing. I'm pretty sure I'm going to try going to an ER this weekend. If I don't get it by next week, I might just pay up the extra money to go to a proper gyno that cares. I'm mainly sick of the moodiness, my face is hurting from the crying....I'm trying to stay positive though, and these forums help. I like hearing the happy stories, it brings hope to all the darkness in the world
Yeah that might be a wise idea. Go to someone who isn't a crock and actually cares. The forums are great! I was reading the one forum where the person swore up and down they were pregnant and the baby was hiding behind the ribs so the doctor couldn't detect it on the ultrasound. I find that a little hard to comprehend as to why a doctor wouldn't even think of something like that! Speaking of the moodiness, I have the urge to cry today and don't know what it is haha. It's ridiculous cuz I'm at work. I actually just went out at lunch to buy my HPT. My period is due on Monday so I'm not about to test. I got that first response though so I'm not sure if that'll be good enough to test now. It says know 5 days before but sometimes I'm not sure how accurate it is. I'd rather wait the 3 days to see if my period comes and if it doesn't then I'll test to confirm. Pregnancy tests are expensive too haha, but sometimes it's worth it in the long run to buy a whole bunch We weren't actually planning on ttc until October when I was going to go off of the pill again. I had just taken my pill late on the 30th as we were in the middle of moving (normally would have taken it early am, took it late pm) and we had had sex that night. I then forgot to take it again this past Sunday and again took it late (oops!) so I'm not sure if my body is mad at me or what's going on! I'll keep you posted though!
Please do! I completely understand about the waiting to test though, the less stress the better. If I tested everytime I wanted to, I'd probably be testing twice a week, and when you get stressed, your body gets stressed then yikes. I hope regardless though, this is your year!
Maybe you should just goto a free clinic or womans clinic of some sort and tell them u have not had a period since may 19th and ask them to do the blood test for you....im sure they will do it there... good luck.... im so sorry you have to deal with such a negative doctor =0) Maybe dont even mention your negative results at home? Its worth a try? Good luck hun =0)
Thank you! I went to the charity hospital last night because that is really all we have; they can refer you to the women's clinic if they deem it necessary. Basically, they had me pee in a cup, say I didn't have a uti, pregnancy test negative, did a pelvic exam, said that showed nothing and told me the soonest for an ultrasound is August 17th. When I asked if they would be drawing blood, they looked at me like I was crazy and asked why. My temperature is a steady 99 degrees all day, I feel feverish, but they say that isn't high enough to be considered a fever. I talked to my mother and she said that she didn't know she was pregnant with my older brother until 4 months because she still had light bleeding that came when her periods were due. Also with me, she didn't get a positive until 9 weeks. She believes its genetics. Anyone in a similar situation? I'm still confused, and nauseou, and breasts swelling painfully. Silly hormones...
I've been going through the same thing janejapz10. If you are able, a blood test would help you know for sure. And even if it comes up negative, they will schedule you for an ultrasound because it could be something more serious. With insurance this happens within the week, but I have to wait a month. You could also wait another week and test again.
Do you have any symptoms? Or sharp pains in your lower abdomen?
Hey pennymarie, so I did the HPT and got a negative and my period came this morning (very lightly though). My body definitely was playing major tricks on me as my pms symptoms have never been this strong since my m/c's and I've been back on bc for 6 months so my body should be used to it again. Crazy but at least I know for sure now that it was just my body being a jerk lol. Any luck for you yet?
I'm sorry, canadianangel. Maybe the dip in hormones caused your body to be all wacky...the mind games are the worst. Hopefully your body will be back and running in excellent condition for a baby in the fall! I've always heard you should stop the BC for at least a month before trying to conceive, to allow your hormones to regulate out again.
My period is still MIA, and now I'm running a slight fever of 99 to 100 depending on my activity. I went to the charity hospital and the soonest they can schedule me for an ultrasound is August 17th. I don't know what is going on at all...I'm scared to take another hpt because it could mean something worse is wrong. Still nauseous though...its all pretty depressing
Hey, hope everything is alright with you and you are okay! Please keep us posted! If they think something is wrong the hospital can do an ultrasound they should have the technology but the trans-vaginal ultrasound they may not have that at the hospital (that's what happened to me with the first m/c). We will be trying again in October (well actually we will be officially "trying" without accidents lol) so I'll be going off bc in September. Keep your spirits up though!
I have a vaginal ultrasound scheduled for Wednesday. He gave me some Provera, and said we shall try just inducing my period. I'm going to wait til after the ultrasound, just to be sure I didn't ovulate late. He said next cycle we will try inducing me to ovulate, so there is hope. He believes I don't ovulate at all. I'm having to keep track of my bbt, which I already do, and turn it in to him in a few weeks.
