Q: trouble beginning menstruation

I am 16 and I am not at menstruation. I had menstruation for the first time when I was 12, but after a year it completelly stopped. I took some medication one year ago, with medical advice, and I had again menstruation, but only for a month. So, now I am really worried. I dont know what to do. Seems like medication is not a long term solution. Shall I eat something special or take some plants?
I also have to tell you that some people told me my problems might come from the fact that I've been dieting about a year at the age of 13.
Please help me.

I had my hormone levels last checked on November last year. They were a bit smaller than the lowest level required.

You should now check in with your doctor. Periods usually start around age 12 but if you haven't started by 16 you need to go and get it checked out. The condition is called "amenorrhea" Amenorrhea occurs when a woman does not get her period by age 16 and is a symptom of another condition.

Possible causes of delayed menstruation include:

* excessive exercising
* eating disorders (such as anorexia nervosa)
* physical stress
* psychological stress
* tumors
* hormonal problems

It's time to seek some help. You can learn more about menstrual irregularities at the National Institutes of Health website.
