Q: Treatments for lower back pain
asked by: DoctorQuestion on May 1st, 2009
I have had a dull ache in my back near the waist and below my ribcage on and off. It is worse when I lie down or lean forward. It does not hurt at all when I rub the area or palpate it or when standing or sitting unless my legs are flat in fron of me like on the floor. I do have frequent urination but this has not worsened since a hysterectomy 20 years ago. I wake up at night to go once or twice. My urine has a strong odor however. Could you help me at all?

There are many reasons for lower back pain. Therefore, it can not be determined what caused it without an additional examination. You might want to visit your family doctor for a physical examination. An x-ray or another imaging method (CT scan or MRI) might be needed. The pain might be related to degeneration processes.

Your family doctor might refer you to an orthopedist. Depending on the cause for the condition, anti-inflammatory medications, physical therapy, or even surgery might be suggested.
