Q: Treatments for bacterial UTIs
asked by: DoctorQuestion on December 25th, 2008
I'm not sure whether I have a severe case of yeast infection or STD. The symptoms match those of a yeast infection - itchiness, soreness, swelling of vulva, chills, fever... I have used monistat on Tuesday (today is thursday) - and things seem to be getting worse. The itchiness has now become painfully unbearable, i feel a hard burning sensation when I pee, I cant sit or lie on the bed comfortable. I just don't know what to do! I think I am unable to walk to the doctors or clinic, and even if I could - I don't know where to go. I'm an international student here for my third year in university. I'm insured with my college but the health services center is closed and I dont have my insurance card.
Please give me some advice - How can I stop this dreadful pain? How do I diagnose this? What are some short term remedies to allievate the pain?

Thanks

Current medical status: I start feeling itchiness and a sense of discomfiture a couple days ago. I ignored it, because I was embarrassed and thought it would go away by itself.

Current medical treatment: Condition has become worse, more pain!

Go to visit a doctor when the health service is opened and do urine laboratory tests. The symptoms you described might indicate a urinary tract infection caused by bacteria. You might need antibiotics prescribed to solve the infection. Meanwhile, there are various over-the-counter products you might want to use. Drink cranberry juice which is very well known to help in such conditions. You can consult your GP about taking ibuprofen tablets which can decrease the inflammation and pain.
