Q: Treatment options for severe pain during period

I'm posting on behalf of my girlfriend because she's too shy to ask. Every time of the month she gets intense pain...like crying unrelenting pain that makes even moving around when laying down a chore. When she puts her laptop on her stomach and lays on her back it tens to lessen some but the relief is only temporary.

She usually takes pain killers but doesn't like taking them too often. Are there ways to help lessen the pain when she can't use her laptop? I've been reading about using a hot water bottle but I don't know how much they cost (I really don't have the money right now or I'd pick it up for her) and she can't take a hot bath at 2am when she needs to get up at 7.

I really appreciate any advice given I'm looking at other topics while I post this and any advice would be heavily appreciated. I love her and I hate seeing her in pain. Thank you again.

A girl's period should not be that painful. Better she go and see a health care provider.

Yes, the heating pad is good, and hot water bottles are not expensive. I can sympathize with your friend. I can only describe that time of my life as BRUTAL. Thank God it's over now! If she is on birth control, that usually helps with some of the problems. She should talk to her doctor to see if he can give her some help.

Midol!!! Hot packs work wonders too. They cost about $8 and you can get them at your local pharmacy, takes 1 min to heat them up and you're on your way to happy land. Enjoy.

Laptop use and period pain
I get period pain when I am laying in bed with my laptop on my lap/abdomen (regardless of the time of the month). It is weird that your friend's period pain lessens when she uses her laptop. Should we be concerned that our laptops have an effect? Has anyone else experienced this?

You guys are something else. There are two ways that your "laptop" can effect you. #1. Pressure: when I get my period I also get BAD unrelenting period pain. Pressure put on your abdomen on this time will cause more pain. However, #2. Heat: if your laptop is warm enough, the heat will make your abdomen feel better and ease the pain.

I am sorry but your arrogant reply indicates you did not read my message. I was stating that when I use my lap top I GET period pain....but at no other time (even when I have a period). It does not relieve my pain nor do I use it to do this. My laptop is as light as a feather and places no pressure on my abdomen. Having a child sitting on your lap places far more pressure but does not cause period pain.
This is a forum where by people can express concerns/ask questions etc. We need to have respect for this and not have a go at anyone's comments eg telling them they are 'something else' (particularly when you didn't read the comment properly in the first place). Being a know it all is never a good look!
