Q: Treatment for a spinal disc herniation
asked by: DoctorQuestion on January 2nd, 2009
Hi,
I first asked arthopedic surgeon, he suggested for MRI as mentiones above ,after that he told me to get operated. I asked to neurosurgeon for this, he suggested to do 2 steps ,and said we may exclude the 3rd step(i.e. supporting titanium metal cage) as it is not much necessary till date, we can do it after some years if i may suffer again due to more daily activities.

Please suggest me for my problem neurosurgeon or orthopedic surgeon will be helpful?
whom shud i go for?
please reply.

Current medical status: 1.Straightening of lumbar spine with sacralization of L5 vertebra 2.Diffuse disc bulge of 3-4 disc bilateral facetal arthropathy and ligamentum flavum hypertrophy causing thecal sac narrowing and bilateral foraminal stenosis 3. Diffuse disc bulge with right paracentral protrusion of L4-5 disc causing indentation of right traversing nerve root at this level (L5) and mild bilateral foraminal compromise
Current medical treatment: advised -Operation for spinal decompression, disc reloaction, supporting throug titanium metal cage.

A spinal disc herniation is a medical condition where the soft, central part of the intervertebral disc protrudes through a tear in the peripheral fibrous part of the disc. Usually a spinal disc herniation is solved by a neurosurgeon. Whether all of the recommended procedures should be performed is a matter of judgment of the surgeon because he has all the necessary data.
