Q: Treatment by a mental health professional
asked by: DoctorQuestion on September 15th, 2008
I am an insomniac as well, and sleep deprivation causes the Amygdala to react negatively towards moods. How do I get "6-8 hours of recommended sleep" when I'm not tired? Also, I have tried Adderal in high school and it completely leveled my moods out and increased my focus. My brain wasn't flying in 6,000 directions at once. I struggle with anxiety as well and it seemed to alleviate that also. So I guess what I'm trying to ask is, why hasn't a Dr. suggested a stimulant with a mood stabilizer? I know you are not "medical professionals" but I'd just like somewhere to start. My current medication doesn't do much to help my symptoms either, or at least I haven't noticed it.

Please any information you could offer would be very much appreciated.

Thank you so much for your time,

Patient

Bipolar Disorder Answer A4704
Diagnosis that has been suggested: Well, sort of. A lot of doctors think I'm Bi-Polar, as do I. However I was previously thought to have ADD as a child, then as I grew older my doctors thought I had clinical depression. Now I am currently on Effexor XR 150mg once a day, Abilify 10 mg once a day, Ativan .5mg 4-5 times a day and Mirtazapine 15mg at night. To be honest, I still feel as manic as Kurt Cobain.
Current medical status: I tore my ACL, MCL, LCL, and a couple of other ligaments playing football my junior year of high school. After that I couldn't play, and my life has been spiraling ever since.
Current medical treatment: Effexor XR 150 mg/Abilify 10mg/Mirtazapine 15mg/Ativan .5mg/Therapy.

Your case is very complicated so you need an expert opinion from a mental health professional.
