Q: Treating genital odor with antibacterial soap
asked by: DoctorQuestion on June 8th, 2009
I have a 3 year old and once I thought she had a yeast infection or urinary tract infection so I smelled or the odor and then took her to the doctor and she tested negative for both. But now I still smell a foul odor in her private area no matter how much i wash it's come from her private and I know she is to young to douch so what do I do...I tried changing her diet to see if what she was eating made her body give that odor......still no hope...help

I understand your child has an odor only in her “private area” and nowhere else.

I also see that you have eliminated urinary tract infections and yeast infections as a cause.

I assume also that she does not have any underarm odor, any obvious vaginal discharge, or any signs of early sexual development. If this is indeed the case, you may want to try an antibacterial deodorant soap instead of the milder ‘baby soap’ that you are probably using.
