Q: Treating bad circulation
asked by: DoctorQuestion on February 3rd, 2009
I loose circulation in my hands and legs very often. I constantly have to change positions when sitting, laying down, holdings bags, ect. Even in my hips if I am sitting or lying on the floor. I have not talked to anyone about it. So far I do not have high blood pressure or anything. My cholesterol is 236 and that is the only concern my Dr sees.

Bad circulation can be caused by facilitated atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is a disorder in which plaques are formed on the walls of the blood vessels. The cholesterol is one of the main components of the plaques. When cholesterol blood levels are increased, the plaques are more easily formed. The blood vessels consequently tighten and the blood flow is decreased. If a spasm of the muscles in the walls of the blood vessels occurs, the blood flow might not be enough for the activities that are actually happening. Complete stoppage of the circulation occurs when a blood clog enters the affected blood vessels, thus causing infarction of the affected organ.

Your doctor might recommend antilipemic medicaments. Over the counter products that help decreasing the blood level of cholesterol can be used, too.
