Q: Treating acid reflux with medications and lifestyle changes
asked by: DoctorQuestion on November 1st, 2009
I have been having stomach and throat issues for over a year and a half. I have seen doctor after doctor and test after test. Results are that I have acid reflux and I have cysts on my ovaries which may be causing some of the bloating. I had an upper GI it was normal, an ultrasound on my gallbladder, it was normal, and ultrasound on my pelvic area, they found the right ovary was enlarged with a cyst, the left ovary also had a cyst and may be causing the bloated filling. Now they want to remove my ovaries, but they are still unsure this will solve the situation. I also have severe buring in my throat and mouth and I am getting blisters. My doctor increase my nexium, added 2 pepsid pills at bedtime and mylanta as the bottle instructs. I am asking if there is another medicine besides the nexium that could take care of the burning and do you think my symtoms warrant having my ovaries removed.

You like to know whether there is another medication except nexium that could take care of burning and whether the symptoms will go away once your ovaries are removed.

Acid reflux appears when there is an upward ejection of acid from the stomach into the esophagus, causing pain known as heartburn. Treatment of acid reflux usually involves diet changes such as avoiding taking food and liquid one to two hours before going to bed, medications like antacids, blockers of the H-proton pump, etc. You may see your doctor or another qualified healthcare provider such as a gastroenterologist for further advice and treatment of acid reflux.

In certain cases such as gastric cancer, ovarian cysts may appear. You may see a gynecologist to examine the cysts. You may also consider having a biopsy from the cyst’s tissue for further diagnosis as to whether the cysts are benign or malignant.

Please keep in mind that I am trying to provide you with medical information here. I am not able to give you medical advice online. Please contact your doctor or a qualified healthcare provider such as a gynecologist for further advice, diagnosis and treatment options.
