about seven years ago, i noticed a small bump at the top of my butt crack right in the center and it would be very painful and had small amounts of discharge coming from it. then it went away for a long time and now it comes back during my monthly menstruation period then goes away. however this time it is not that big of a bump any more its quite small and there is no discharge. it is however painful to sit, lay, and get up. i was looking at posts for the pilondal cyst or something like that and i dont think thats what it is because it does not have any discharge whatsoever. i would just really like to know what this is and if it is anything serious or if i dont need to worry about it.

Hello,

Welcome to the ehealthforum and I am really glad to help you out.

Your concern is regarding the painful bump that you have on the butt crack. Indeed, the symptoms are suggestive of a pilonidal cyst. It is a cyst right over the coccyx area. In this, the skin becomes reddened or even sometimes looks like a small bruise. When it is infected, it causes pain. Antibiotics or surgical drainage may be required.

My sincere advice would be to get it examined by a surgeon.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are advised to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
