So I have had extreme anxiety for about 4 or 5 months now. It started off with just a bad headache and bad panic attacks, and it would just come in spells. Now I feel this way all the time and it's beginning to affect my everyday life and I am greatly distracted at work. Not only this, For the past month or so I have had very very bad insomnia. Even if I do fall asleep, I wake up several times, or I have crazy dreams about work or about what I need to do the next day. It's like my brain will not shut off.

My doctor first prescribed me to venlafaxine 37.5mg for 2 weeks, and then 75mg afterwards, but I never took it because I heard it can make insomnia worse. She gave me alprazolam on the side but I know it can be habit forming so I never tried that one either.

I recently went back to the doctor and she prescribed me trazodone. I am just wondering if anyone can tell me about trazodone and if it is really know to help anxiety and insomnia?

Thanks!

Trazodone for anxiety
I began taking trazodone yesterday for the same anxiety symptoms that you describe. I lost my in-laws and my husband in a very short period of time. Three months later, I began experiencing headaches and anxiety once a day and then it increased to the point that I began to feel hopeless about the situation. At one point, I thought I was having heart problems and was admitted for a workup. Luckily all heart tests were normal.
But then the anxiety escalated to where it was affecting me most of the day & night.
I tried natural remedies and still drink calming herbal teas, but felt I needed a doctor to intervene as I couldn't take the horrible symptoms anymore. I will check to see if you reply to this post and we can share our progress with the drug. My name is Andrea also!
