Q: Transvaginal Ultrasound

I just need to know if you can hear a non-pregnant womans heartbeat through a transvaginal ultrasound or only a fetuses and if only the fetus how far along in pregnancy would you have to be to hear it?

No. you can't hear a womans heartbeat with a transvaginal ultrasound. A transvaginal ultrasound is used to see what is in the uterus, you can see ovaries and fallopian tubes, cervix..You can't hear the heartbeat of the fetus neither. For hearing the fetal heartbeat the doctor will use a doppler. But you can see the heart beating with the ultrasound. I had my first transvaginal at 8 weeks pregnant and it showed the fetus clearly. I had another transvaginal at 12 weeks same thing. The used the doppler to hear the heartbeat past the 12 weeks. Hope this helps.
