I have stage3 ckd. I take Lamictal for a mood disorder and was wondering If it is harmful to the kidneys? Also what about protein and phosphorus. I understand there is some controversy about protein being harmful. Thank you!

People with reduced kidney function may be more sensitive to the effects of this medication and need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely take Lamictal, since patient with varying degrees of kidney impairment have this drug in blood system longer than patient with normal kidney function.
As any other drug, especially when used for longer period, Lamictal has some negative impact on kidney function.
Extra phosphate is filtered by the kidneys and passes out of the body in the urine. A high level of phosphate in the urine may be caused by a kidney problem.
A condition in which urine contains an abnormal amount of protein is a sign of chronic kidney disease.
