Hi friends,

I am a year old male with no apparentnt health problems. My BMI is 29. Last month I checked my total cholesterol and it was 246. LDL was also high-- 136. should i start statin? or should i stick to diet control?? I consulted a physician online at a site that provides "live chat with a doctor" ..they say I should try weight loss and diet control first..and gave me a diet chart...do u think tht is enough..or should i start statin I am quite anxious...

The numbers of your total cholesterol are classified as a high total cholesterol levels, and the LDL or "bad cholesterol" of 136 belongs to borderline high levels.
It is generally accepted rule among physicians to suggest a cholesterol-lowering diet and exercise for 3 months, before statin use is considered.
If the desirable lipid profile isn't achieved through diet and lifestyle approaches, statins or other pharmacologic agents may then be recommended.

I have recently been advised by my physician to take the statin-based pharmaceutical, Lipitor. I have been trying to avoid this by making considerable efforts to adhere to a strict dietary regiment, in addition to engaging in cardio exercise about 2-3 times per week. However, my numbers have only changed minimally in the past three months. As I have friends who have tried some of the statin-based pharmaceuticals and experienced terrible side-effects, I would prefer to try a natural alternative treatment first. In preliminary searches online, I have found product that I recently order called CholestProtect. Has anyone tried any of this?
