Q: Torn rotator cuff muscle?

I was trying to reach something on the back seat of my car, and overstretched, tearing the rotator cuff muscle (according to my GP)in my left arm. This was in January. I have had a steroid injection into the joint, am on pain killers, topical and oral and am still in pain with this. I get a stabbing pain from a particular point in my bicep(?), not continual. When I jerk my arm for any reason, eg holding my sons hand and he tugs it, flick my hair over my shoulder, that sort of movement, the pain is unbearable. It runs from the front of my shoulder, all down the muscle in my arm, mainly on the inside of my arm, to my fingers, and is a very sharp pain, much like the one you get when you pull a muscle in the first place! I also have tennis elbow due to misuse of my arm because of the pain and limited movement! My GP has referred me for physio, but the waiting list is 12 weeks, and I just don't think I can wait that long. The only way I can sleep is by lying on my side and resting my arm on a pillow, and taking pain killers before I go to bed. Help!! My husband thinks wearing a sling to immobilise my arm and shoulder might be a good idea. Should I go back to the GP yet again about this?

I have the same problem..Except mine is partially torn so each movment is horrible as I can tell when it tares more..I know i need surgery but am putting off.I burn into my shoulder blade and it feels like a hot electric poker..I wake up with the pain and takes for evr togo to sleep..I am told surgery is the only option to stop the pain..

yeahyous and kd: It is the only option...My husband put this off for years...It gets worse with time...It is a long recovery and you will need help at first when you get home from the hospital....But consider having this done...

He has now had both shoulders done and my son had one...We are a bionic family.. Rolling Eyes
